A New way to look at Emotions

The article "A New way to look at emotions - and how to master yours" talks of how ones emotions can be very dependent on the feedback that their body is giving them even though their thoughts might be giving the opposite signals. It also gives a few example of how one can fully master the understanding of their feelings through mindful activities and feeling new things; pushing themselves to do new things. I want to focus on the first part of the article on Emotion identification. The example given in the text talks of a woman that felt as if she was starting to fall for someone through the fact that her body was having all of the reactions that she expected it to have when she came across someone that she liked, the truth was that she didn't feel anything for him at all, but rather that she was becoming ill and her body was reacting accordingly. Somatic Marker Theory

The Somatic Marker theory first developed by Antonio Damasi explains the relationship between our past emotional experiences and how the decisions we make are affected by them. The theory goes that when one experiences something, an emotion is related to that experience, for example, if one were to eat peanuts without knowing that he/she was allergic to them and feel nauseous afterwards, the next time that person is offered peanuts, he will most likely decline due to how he felt the last time he had some. This can also be positive as when we taste something and we enjoy it, we will be inclined to eat said food in the future.
